The chances of finding a perfect rental for rental deal that works is pretty slim. I think trading Schultz would be a more involved exercise. You negotiate with team A who wants Schultz and team B who has a player you want simultaneously. Figure out what team B wants and make that your demand from team A. Flip team A’s assets to team B.

Or I guess, you know, a three team trade...

Pens are 2nd in hits per 60 mins and 5th and in total checks given this season.

They are very physical. They just dont have huge beefcake bruisers on their roster, well except JJ...he's borderline that.

They might initiate contact but 95% of that is as soff as it gets while still counting as a hit.

A Palmieri type deal is quite possible. The Penguins have Shultz and cap space, but few other assets. New Jersey has Palmieri. A third party with picks or prospects, (especially if short on cap space) opens up an opportunity for a 3 way deal.
Third Party gets Shultz (with salary retained) for picks/prospects, NJ gives up Palmieri (maybe, maybe not salary retained) for picks/prospects, Pens get Palmieri.

GMJR has done that before with Vegas (who demonstrated how to weaponize extra cap space at the deadline).

The risk is that RD gets really thin after Shultz is gone. I doubt JR does this unless he gets a depth RD coming back.

I don't think this works for Palmieri because he has a year left and the price will likely start with a 1st and a prospect, which is too high for Shultz. Nonethless, there is a path to making a match work. And someone without cap space can be squeezed.

With all the injuries and what not, plus the fact JR is on record saying he likes and is pleased with his D this season, I don't see them trading Schultz this season.

Maybe they'll trade his rights before FA season begins ...maybe they'll just let him walk. I don't see them resigning him but that's a possibility I guess.

Not sure why you trade Schultz, If you get all the D healthy before playoffs Ruhwedel and Riikola are your 7 and 8. You will need one or both of them at some point if the Pens go on a long run. I don't want Trotman to be the next RD up.

Would trotman be recalled due to the spot open from Marino being out on ir?

Or is it another injury? I haven’t saw anything. Would suck to get hurt against TO. They are about as physical as us

- 10inchTerror

Maybe after Malkin being a late scratch they decided they should have more than 6 healthy defensememn.

Schultz for Granlund would make some sense for both teams. I can see the premise and agree Schultz is overrated, I just can't see them going with Ruhwedel, especially with how awful he and JJ have been when paired.

I don't agree. They're not hitting soft. They're just smaller bodies. They're hitting effectively as in to remove body from puck and they're doing it often.

They are having one of their best team D seasons in a long time all while being the 2nd most hitting team in the league. It is related though not totally, obviously.

Apparently nobody. All 6 practiced. Malkin will travel with the team to TO.

Is there stipulation in the CBA that if there's illness in the locker room an emergency call up can happen?

This is from a Rangers fan. I like Kreider. Seems like the 5th is a bit much to me but, Id do it, but id turn it into a 3rd if it was contingent on him resigning with the pens.

I think Schultz is going to have a smaller cap hit next year wherever he ends up...and I cant see him getting much term after the last few seasons either. 2 years @ 4 mill per or around there is my best guess. Am I out to lunch to think this?

Your thoughts?

Maybe they don't want to get to TO without an extra D available. They finally put Marino on IR.

That doesn't explain how the call up can be emergency. You have to have less than 12 forwards, 6 d, and 2 goalies.
